Stewart (public health, Staffordshire Univ., UK) offers an excellent reference for undergraduate students. This book aims to check comprehension at various points throughout the text before proceeding further. For example, between the first section (data and statistics) and the second (epidemiology), Stewart writes, 'If there is anything that you are unsure about, now might be a good time to go back and re-read the particular section in which it appears'(p. 105). Charming asides such as this easily guide readers through the subject, though the simple language and clear examples may be sufficient on the first read through. At the end of the work, practice problems are presented with solution guides to test comprehension. --J. P. Bourgeois, Nicholls State University Summing Up: Recommended.
